Gilbert also explains mileage deductions and standard mileage rates. (Though average gas prices are under $2/gal, it probably won't affect the mileage rates this tax season.) He also discusses the ACA and 1095A. If you did not have health insurance this year, you will pay a fee. Today's other topics include sect 529, gift taxes, and Sales & Use Tax.

Gilbert discusses recent headlines involving the IRS, and scams. He has warnings for us regarding ACA (Affordable Care Act) regulations: 1) Make sure all your family members are covered, 2) if you have a private (non-employer sponsored) policy, be sure it is compliant. Watch for the new 1095A which will be issued to all marketplace policyholders and must be filed with your tax return as proof of coverage. Gilbert talks about various state and federal credits including the Work Opportunity credit and Historical District credit; some of these will expire on 12/31/2014. He also offers a history tidbit on Enrolled Agents. The profession came into being with the Dead Horse Act of 1884, to ensure Congress was not paying post-Civil-War restitution on too many dead horses!
